Laura Skelding: Celia Pearson, 99, is as full of life as her flower garden. Her energy is contagious and I felt an immediate connection to her as soon as I met her. She appeared so photogenic to me in this bright green dress she made herself. The outside of her home is covered in photographs of her loved ones and surrounded by blooming flowers. She's a storyteller with a warm face and she let me capture her essence in this photograph.

Celia Pearson is the ray of sunshine that makes her flowers bloom. She is 99 years old and keeps a beautifully manicured garden full of flowers, even some artificial ones for additional color, she says. She is a positive person who sings her answers to questions and eats Cheerios for breakfast.
When the La Loteria mural was painted over for the SXSW Music Festival's Impossible Wall project, a beloved art piece was yanked from East Austin. After community uproar, the festival provided the money to pay for the restoration of the art piece and over the last month, community members have come together to help repaint the mural. The new mural will be unveiled at a ceremony on Saturday at 6 p.m. but the project has already started to heal some wounds left from the destruction of a beloved piece of East Austin. Mando Martinez is another person who has worked on the mural. This part of the wall depicts an Aztec sun god with names of the artists circling around it.
